Exeter-based Top 40 accountants Bishop Fleming are helping to bring global ideas to the City with their sponsorship of the TEDxExeter conference on 21 April 2017 at the Northcott Theatre.
Although tickets for the event sold out within 16 minutes of going on sale, the public will still be able to watch the speakers and performers online with a simultaneous livestream.
The conference, sponsored by Bishop Fleming for the 2nd year running, hosts inspirational writers and lecturers sharing their ideas on a wide range of subjects, including climate change, health, conservation, science and technology. There will also be performances by poets and various dance and drumming groups.
The theme of the conference, now in its 6th year, will be on hope, to encourage, inspire and make dreams a reality.
Celebrating 10 years at Stratus House on the Exeter Business Park, Bishop Fleming was keen to sponsor TEDxExeter, as it showcases world-class talent that can transform thinking and challenge existing preconceptions, providing an opening for innovative solutions to be heard and adopted.
According to Fleur Lewis, partner at Bishop Fleming, the ethos of the TEDxExeter message fits well with the innovative thinking that the accounting firm offers its clients.
Mrs Lewis explained: “The world is changing and businesses must change with it to survive and prosper. That means being prepared to deploy radical and far-reaching actions, sometimes in a very different direction to the original business plan. Brexit, new government regulations, and the digitisation of the tax system are just three areas where we have to adapt. As a firm we are embracing forward-looking philosophies on such matters as Big Data analytics, change management and cloud-based accounting systems for our clients – the kind of forward-thinking we see in many of the TED talks.”
The Bishop Fleming partner added: “The TEDxExeter event helps to foster community and connection, with opportunities for individual advancement. These values are very much at the heart of the Bishop Fleming culture, with our focus on engendering a team spirit, sharing with each other our skills and knowledge, and inspiring each other to seek what is best for the firm, clients and the wider community.”
Mrs Lewis hoped that through her firm’s sponsorship of TEDxExeter, global ideas to inspire and create change will reach citizens, students, civic leaders and business owners in the region.
Bishop Fleming is currently ranked 42nd in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2017, as an “outstanding” employer, with a clear commitment to workplace engagement and with the determination to strive for the top position.
The firm also received an “outstanding” accreditation for “Investors in Customers” award in 2016 for the second assessment in a row.
Having twice been listed as Britain’s fastest growing accountancy firm, Bishop Fleming is currently in 33rd position in the UK’s national league table of accountancy firms.
