Bristol-based Danbury MotorCaravans has been sold for an undisclosed sum to French-based motorhome group, Pilote, with the help of a Midlands and Westcountry-based advisory team.

The shareholders of Danbury Motorcaravans were advised on the deal by top 30 accountants and corporate finance specialists, Bishop Fleming.

Following on from winning International Deal of the Year at the Midlands Insider Dealmakers, this is another example of a cross-border transaction completed by Bishop Fleming’s Corporate Finance team.

Danbury MotorCaravans is a long-established family-run business that has built a strong brand and loyal customer base in the lifestyle motorhome conversion market. It boasts a proud history of converting the retro style VW T2, the VW T5&6 and Ford Transit into Motorcaravans at its factory in Yate, Bristol. It has been converting vehicles for over 15 years.

French-based Pilote, which has been in the Motorcaravan business for over 50 years, acquired Danbury Motor Caravans and all its staff.

Bishop Fleming’s Corporate Finance Partner, Charles Davey, commented: “I am really pleased to have delivered this transaction for the sellers. They have built an extremely strong brand in Danbury, with market-leading products over a number of years, and now the time is right for the new owners to take the business forward. The lifestyle motorcaravan market is extremely strong in the UK, and I am sure the business will go from strength to strength under its new owners.”

Mr. Davey added: “We are seeing considerable interest from European acquirers for UK-based companies as part of their own Brexit planning, which is another avenue for UK companies when considering their exit. Here at Bishop Fleming, we are working with owner-managed businesses in the South West to identify their strategic options and plan for the future.”

Jason Milkins of Roxburgh Milkins provided legal advice to the sellers and commented: “We always enjoy working with successful businesses in the region, whether at start-up, investment or sale stages. We were pleased to support the Danbury team in their objectives for this deal, and ensure their brand and products continue to thrive in the future”.
