ICAEW Council elects Bishop Fleming Partner as Vice-President

8th January 2024

Caroline Smale, a partner who leads the Risk and Compliance team at Bishop Fleming, has been elected Vice-President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) for the period 2024 to 2025.

Caroline has been a member of ICAEW Council since 2017, representing the South West region. She is currently a member of the ICAEW Board and Chair of the ICAEW Members and Commercial Board.

Caroline said:

“I am delighted to be elected Vice-President of ICAEW. I am committed to promoting the work of the Institute and supporting our members, ensuring that ICAEW remains relevant for the Chartered Accountants of the future.

Caroline has previously served as Vice-President of ICAEW South West and Chair of the ICAEW Practice Committee. Diversity in the accounting profession is important to Caroline, and in her mentoring role within Bishop Fleming she supports female and younger colleagues.

“My focus will be on continuing to improve the experience and engagement of members, developing the sustainability of the profession, and supporting initiatives in inclusion and diversity.”

Andrew Sandiford, Managing Partner of Bishop Fleming added:

“On behalf of the partners at Bishop Fleming, I would like to congratulate Caroline on her election to Vice-President. To have a member of our business representing our profession at the highest level is not only rewarding for Caroline but an honour for Bishop Fleming too. I wish her well in her role later this year.”

Caroline’s position will become effective in June when she succeeds Derek Blair as Vice-President, with Derek becoming Deputy President and Malcolm Bacchus President.
