Budget confirmed for 11 March 2020

18th February 2020

It has been confirmed that the UK's first Budget in 16 months will still go ahead on 11 March 2020 - as planned - even though the new Chancellor will only have had less then four weeks to prepare.

New Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced that he will keep the date as already announced.

There was much speculation that the date could change due to the resignation of Sajid Javid and the subsequent appointment of Sunak, who had been Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Mr Sunak tweeted: "Cracking on with preparations for my first Budget on March 11. It will deliver on the promises we made to the British people – levelling up and unleashing the country’s potential."

It had been thought that even though the Budget was "well advanced", according to Transport minister, Grant Shapps, Sunak might want more time.

Following Javid's resignation, No 10 announced there would now be a joint team of economic advisers for both the new chancellor and prime minister, leading to speculation that Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his adviser Dominic Cummings are now in charge of The Treasury

Bishop Fleming will be covering what will be a radical Budget and will be analysing the announcements.

Our earlier article considered what might be in this first Budget since the general election in December.
