To mark the firm's centenary celebrations, Bishop Fleming are proud to sponsor their very own Elmer, as part of Elmer’s Big Parade.

Over 40 original and individually designed Elmer inspired elephants have appeared across the city in order to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.

The trial, which went live on July 8 has seen elephant sculptures situated in the parks and streets of Plymouth and will be open for those in the city to enjoy until September 16.

Bishop Fleming’s elephant was hand painted by talented artist, Sally Adams and is named ‘Sit Among'st the Flowers’.

The elephant is one of a kind and offers a place for elephant searchers on the trail to have a rest and enjoy the view of Plymouth Sound from its position on Plymouth Hoe, with its unique built-in seat.

St Luke’s Hospice have launched the trail in collaboration with Anderson Press and Wild in Art as a celebration of Elmer’s 30th Birthday and it will be the largest ever mass participation event in Devon and Cornwall.

Elmer remains one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time, selling over 8 million copies worldwide since it was first published by Anderson Press in 1989.

After the trail finishes, the elephants will be put up for auction to raise funds to enable St Luke’s to continue to provide specialist care to its patients.

Bishop Fleming is celebrating its centenary year this year and has pledged firm wide to raise £100,000 for charity.

The first 500 people to find and visit the firm’s Elmer and take a selfie while they ‘sit among the flowers’ and share it on social media using #BF100, the firm will donate an extra £1 to St Luke’s Hospice for each photo shared.

As part of the Elmer and Bishop Flemings milestone celebrations the Plymouth office recently held its annual charity quiz, raising an astonishing £7,300.

A woman in Business event also held by the firm, which saw business women from across the city paint pottery elephants, raised £150. Employees have also been partaking in dress down days in exchange for a donation, which has so far raised £1,197.

The Plymouth office has raised over £8,650 for St Luke’s this year to date.

Bishop Fleming look forward to people finding their elephant in Plymouth and gaining their help to raise even more money for St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.

Bishop Fleming Plymouth Partner, Robert Davey said: “2019 is the firm’s centenary year, we are undertaking a lot of activities and fundraising.
“The moment the Elmer opportunity was put forward, we were delighted to come forward and support what is a great initiative.

“Alongside supporting the Elmer campaign, we are doing lots of activities linked to the trail – we held tax presentations named, ‘The Elephant in the room’, where we had Elmer as a guest. We engaged with clients and guests in tax planning to make it relevant to what we do.

“We’ve all been touched in one way or another with family or friends dealing with end of life care and the challenges that brings. The support St Luke’s deliver in that challenging time is invaluable and that is one of the reasons why we are so keen to support such an incredible charity.

“It is inspirational when you hear the tales of support that they have delivered and the amount of money the charity needs to raise annually, is quite frankly eye-watering. That is why it needs the support of all of us to achieve that goal and ensure that when we need that support for our loved ones it is there as required.”
