West Midlands-based Bishop Fleming is celebrating a 100-year partnership with Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

The top 30 firm, which delivers tax, accounting and audit services is delighted to renew its arrangements with the club as its official auditors and tax advisors for the 2019 season.

Ian Smith, Chair of Bishop Fleming, has revealed that the link between the firm and Worcestershire CCC as a client goes way back to as far as the firm’s records are available to at least the mid-1930s.

But the connection between the two started 100 years ago when the founder of Bishop Fleming’s Worcester office, Philip Rabjohns, captained a trial team at New Road to see who was fit to play for the county after the First World War.

In 1919, the same year that Bishop Fleming was founded, Rabjohn’s team won, having scored 182. He went on to be County scorer as well as treasurer, secretary and ultimately the club’s auditor and advisor.

This 100-year partnership coincides with the firm celebrating its centenary year with a pledge to raise £100,000 for charity to mark the milestone. It is also sponsoring a special reception at Hagley Hall in recognition of the firm’s partnership century with the cricket club.

Ian Smith commented: “We are delighted to renew our arrangements with the Club for another year. A century partnership is something quite special and coincides with very exciting times for the County, on and off the pitch.”

He added: “There’s huge ability in the development of the young squad, having won the Vitality Blast Final last year, and we are supporting the work of the Worcestershire Cobham Cricket Trust and the Worcestershire Cricket Board in encouraging more participation in cricket for girls and boys of all backgrounds.”

Matt Rawnsley, CEO of Worcestershire CCC, commented: “The Club celebrates its 120th year at Blackfinch New Road this year. How poignant it is that we also celebrate such a significant milestone with Bishop Fleming. Both WCCC and Bishop Fleming share a commitment to long term partnerships and adherence to core values. Our ‘One Club’ philosophy is built on the foundational values of teamwork, commitment, humility, integrity and community. Values I know that are very aligned with Bishop Fleming’s and its staff.”

He added: “We are delighted that Bishop Fleming is a strategic partner of WCCC and are happy to support its goal of raising £100,000 for charitable causes, supporting the community across various fields.”

In 2018 Bishop Fleming was awarded Gold status by the independent customer services agency, Investor in Customers, for its “exceptional” service to clients. The firm is ranked in the top 30 of the UK’s national league table of accountancy firms.

Back in March of this year Bishop Fleming was ranked ninth in the “Top 75 Best Companies to Work For in the Midlands”. The firm has also been included in the national “Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to Work For” index for the past four years.
