COVID-19 - Our statutory accounts are due to be filed soon but I’m not sure we’re ready – what can we do to delay?

As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, Companies House have said they will issue an automatic filing deadline extension of two months for COVID-19 related reasons, providing that the extension is applied for before your company’s filing deadline. If additional time is required on top of this, a further one-month extension will be considered on a case-by-case basis. No further extension will be granted in excess of this, as three months is the maximum allowed extension under UK law.

These extensions to statutory filing deadlines are specific to Companies House, and there is no blanket extension on regulatory filing. Therefore, other regulators, such as the FCA, may not offer the same extensions.

As usual, any company accounts filed late will incur an automatic penalty.
